So, today I did some work on this Jaeger-LeCoultre, yeah, the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar. To be honest, it’s a bit of a mouthful, but the watch is pretty slick, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
First off, I got my hands on the watch. The thing is super thin, which is kinda cool. I measured it, just for kicks. The case diameter is about the size of my thumb, maybe a little bigger. The case is about 49.4mm by 29.9mm. The thickness is not so much. I don’t get the exact number. But it’s super thin.
Then, I started to copy the design. I used a Citizen Promaster for some parts. I really liked the design. I also looked at some other watches for ideas. There was this Omega Speedmaster, but the main inspiration was the Jaeger-LeCoultre.
I spent a good chunk of the day working on the layout. Man, it was tedious. Got the calendar part going, the moon phase thing, and those little second hands. It looked pretty good at this point. I had a Master Ultra Thin Moon and a Master Ultra Thin Perpetual next to each other, and let me tell you, the Perpetual was thinner. Can you believe it?
After that, it was all about the details. Polishing here, adjusting there. It felt like it took forever, but hey, it was worth it. The final product looked sharp, like the real deal.
- Step 1: Got the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar watch.
- Step 2: Measured the case dimensions.
- Step 3: Took ideas from Citizen Promaster and Omega Speedmaster.
- Step 4: Worked on the layout, calendar, moon phase, and second hands.
- Step 5: Polished and adjusted the details.
I’m not a pro, you know, just a guy who likes watches. But I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s my little project. I saw a Longines Master Collection the other day, and it got me thinking, maybe I’ll try that one next. Who knows?
My takeaway
The watch looks awesome, really close to the original. The case, the dial, all those little details, it is like I nailed it. I compared it with the real Jaeger-LeCoultre, and man, it is hard to tell the difference. I’m not saying it is perfect, but for a homemade job, it is pretty darn good.
It was a fun project, something to keep me busy. Plus, I learned a lot about watches. Maybe I will share other stuff that I have done. I’m no expert, just a regular person with a hobby. So, if you are into watches, give it a try. It is not as hard as you think.
