You know, I heard some folks talking ’bout that fancy watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface. What a mouthful, huh? Sounds like something only them city slickers would wear. But I gotta say, it got me curious. So, I did a little digging, you know, like a hen scratching for grubs.

This here watch, it’s got that name, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and they call it the Reverso Tribute Monoface. They say it’s special for the stores. Well, I reckon anything with that many words in its name has gotta be special, right? They had some new ones come out in the fall, 2024, all shiny and new. I seen pictures of ’em. Three new models, they had.
This Reverso Tribute thing, it’s got all these fancy words attached to it. “Chemin de fer,” “trapezoidal index,” “Dauphine hands,” and something called “gadroons.” Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me, but I guess it means something to those watch people. They say it’s like the old ones from 1931, following their “codes.” Like some secret society, I reckon.
New Colors for the Reverso Tribute Monoface
Now, these new watches, they got some pretty colors. One’s like a silvery gray, real shiny. Another one’s a deep blue. They say they put like 20 layers of something called “lacquer” on it. Twenty layers! Can you imagine? Must take ’em a month of Sundays to do that. Blue is my favorite, always has been. Reminds me of a clear summer sky after a good rain.

They got other kinds too, like this one called a “Duoface Tourbillon” in steel. Don’t ask me what that means, it’s got two faces. And one of them looks like a crazy maze. My head starts spinning just trying to figure that one out.

They say this here Monoface, it’s got a new size. They’re trying to make it like the old ones, the originals. Something ’bout proportions. Like when you’re making biscuits, you gotta get the flour and the lard just right. This new one, it’s got a steel case. Strong, like a good plowhorse. They call the size is 45 x 27mm.

And this watch, it’s got something called a “caliber 822” inside. Sounds like a rifle, don’t it? They say it’s “hand-wound.” That means you gotta wind it up yourself. Ain’t got no batteries like them newfangled things. I reckon it’s like churnin’ butter, gotta keep at it or it won’t work. It runs at some frequency, 21,600vph they called it. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds fast, like a chicken running from the fox.

Now, I heard these watches, they’re expensive. Real expensive. More than my old cow Bessie was worth, that’s for sure. They got all these different kinds, with different materials and shiny stones and different faces. They say they got a whole bunch of other watches too, with “complication movements” and fancy “finishing.” Sounds like a lot of fiddle-faddle to me.
They make ’em in lower volume, whatever that means. So each one costs more. Makes sense, I guess. Like when you only got a few good eggs, they’re worth more than a whole basket of regular ones. It got a 45 x 27mm steel case, and that dial, it can flip around. One side’s all silvered, with numbers and blue hands. The other side’s just plain steel. And it runs on an “automatic movement.” Don’t know how it works, but it sounds fancy.
I reckon this here Reverso watch, it’s like a good piece of jewelry. Something you wear when you wanna feel fancy. Some folks say it’s good to have with another watch, like having two good Sunday dresses. One for church and one for special occasions. This whole watch thing, it’s a bit much for me. I’m happy with my old clock on the mantelpiece. But I gotta admit, that Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface, it’s a pretty thing. Even if it does have a name longer than a country mile. For me, I don’t know how much it is, but I guess it’s too much for this old gal. I just hope I can see it on someone’s hand one day.
