Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Rolex GMT-Master II for a while now. You know, the one with the “Root Beer” bezel? Yeah, that’s the one. I finally decided to go for it, specifically aiming for the official flagship store experience. Let me tell you, it was quite the journey.
First off, I started doing some serious digging online. Found out that this “Root Beer” thing has been around for a while, since like the 70s. And the new ones, they stopped making some in 2006. These are hot stuff, the Daytona, the Submariner, and the GMT-Master II. After that, I started calling around a few stores but not find it, and finally found one in stock. I was not going to let it slip away, so I hopped in my car and drove straight there.
When I got to the store, I saw it, the GMT-Master II with the Root Beer bezel, reference number 126711CHNR. Man, it was even more stunning in person. The sales guy, a real nice fella, started telling me all about it. It’s got this 40mm case, made with some fancy “Everose” gold, which I guess is Rolex’s own special blend. And the bezel, oh boy, the bezel. It’s two-toned, brown and black, and they call it “Cerachrom.”
- I tried it on, and it felt amazing.
- The weight, the look, everything was just perfect.
- I spent a good hour in the store, just admiring it, asking questions, and trying to soak it all in.
But here’s the best part. I asked if they had any other models, and he brought out this discontinued one, the 116718LN. Yellow gold case, black ceramic bezel, and a green dial! I was blown away. It’s from before 2006, so it’s a bit of a collector’s item, but in this time i can only get the 126711CHNR.
After much deliberation (and a bit of a hit to my bank account), I finally pulled the trigger. They sized the bracelet for me right there, gave me all the paperwork, and even a fancy box to keep it in.
Walking out of that store with the Rolex GMT-Master II Root Beer on my wrist, I felt like a million bucks. It was an experience I’ll never forget. This watch, it’s not just a timepiece, it’s a story, a piece of history. And the Root Beer bezel? It’s like a little ray of sunshine, always there to brighten up my day.
The card is dated 2023, and the watch is in perfect condition, like it just came out of the factory. I’m already thinking about my next Rolex. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy this beauty. This was a good day.
