Alright, let’s talk about this little project I got into. I decided to remake the PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, the “Original order” version. Sounds fancy, right? But it was a real hands-on experience.
First off, I had to get the materials. The main thing was this Saffiano leather. Now, this ain’t your regular leather. It’s tough, has this unique texture, and they say it doesn’t change much over time – no fancy patina here. It’s the real deal, treated and embossed and all that. They say it can be either chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned, but that didn’t matter too much for me here. I just made sure it looked right. I needed to get the right thickness too. Not too thick, not too thin, just like the original one. After searching around, I finally found the perfect piece. It wasn’t easy, but I got there.
Then there’s the hardware. Two rolled top handles, an adjustable handle wrap, and an adjustable detachable shoulder strap. And an enamel triangle logo! It sounds like a lot, but each piece had to be just right. I spent days looking for the perfect parts. It was tiring, but I didn’t want to cut any corners. This bag had to be perfect.
- Saffiano leather: The heart of the bag. Took me ages to find the right one.
- Enamel triangle logo: This was a challenge, but it’s what makes it a PRADA.
- Two rolled top handles: These needed to be sturdy and comfortable.
- Adjustable handle wrap: A small detail, but important for that authentic feel.
- Adjustable detachable shoulder strap: For practicality. People use these bags, you know?
I started by cutting the leather. This was nerve-wracking. One wrong cut, and you might as well start over. I measured, and measured, and then measured again before I made a single cut. It was slow, but it had to be done carefully. Then I assembled the pieces, the main body of the bag, the open top, the two zip-fastening compartments. This is where the bag started to take shape. It’s always exciting to see it all come together, although my hands were pretty sore at this point.
Next up was attaching the hardware. I had to punch holes in the leather for the handles and the strap. I lined them up, making sure they were straight and even. Then, I carefully put the metal pieces through the holes and secured them. It sounds easy, but it’s not. One slip and you can scratch the leather, or worse, poke yourself. But I got it done.
Finally, I added the enamel triangle logo. This was the finishing touch, the cherry on top. I found a good spot, made sure it was centered, and attached it. And there it was, my remake of the PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag.
The Result
It wasn’t easy, and it took a lot of time and effort, but I did it. I remade the bag. It’s not perfect, maybe, but it’s mine. I learned a lot about leather, about bags, and about myself. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s a lot of work, but there’s something satisfying about making something with your own hands. And hey, if you’re looking for a unique bag, and you’re not afraid of a little hard work, maybe you should give it a try too. It’s quite an experience, I can tell you that much.
