Okay, here is my blog post about remaking a PRADA Bowler Bag:
So, I saw this PRADA Bowler Bag online and fell in love. But, man, that price tag! I thought, “Hey, I can probably make something similar myself.” Yeah, I’m that kind of person. So I started my adventure to remake it.
First things first, I needed to find a pattern, to do so I looked everywhere online. I searched for days, maybe even weeks, hitting up all the usual spots, Etsy, even some random sewing blogs. Finally, I found a pattern that was kind of close, at least in shape. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a good starting point.
Next up, materials. I’m not using real leather, obviously, because, again, budget. I went to a local fabric store and picked out a nice, thick faux leather. It’s got a good weight and texture, it was good enough for me. I also got some heavy-duty thread, a zipper, and some metal hardware like D-rings and buckles. I wanted this thing to look decent, you know?
Then came the cutting and sewing. This part took forever. I carefully cut out all the pieces, following the pattern as closely as I could. Sewing faux leather is no joke. My sewing machine was definitely struggling at times. I broke a few needles, and my fingers were sore from all the pinning and hand-sewing.
I slowly started to put the pieces together. It was like a puzzle, a frustrating one at that. The curved parts were the hardest, I had to ease them together carefully to avoid any weird puckering. I messed up a few times, had to rip out seams and redo them. I won’t lie, there were moments I wanted to give up.
But I kept at it. I attached the zipper, which was surprisingly easier than I thought. Then, I added the handles and the strap, using the hardware I bought. This part involved a lot of hammering and trying not to smash my fingers. It was tough, but I managed.
Finally, after days of work, it was done! It’s not an exact replica, of course. The shape is a bit off, and my stitching isn’t perfect. But it’s a bowler bag, and I made it! I think it turned out pretty well, all things considered.
- Started with an idea
- Found a pattern online after extensive searching
- Gathered materials from a local fabric store
- Cut and sewed the faux leather, breaking a few needles in the process
- Assembled the bag, piece by piece, with some trial and error
- Attached the zipper, handles, and strap with the purchased hardware
- Completed the bag after days of hard work
I’m actually pretty proud of myself. It’s not perfect, but it’s unique, and it’s mine. I use it and feel a little sense of accomplishment every time. Who needs the real PRADA when you’ve got this, right? Well, maybe I’d still take the real one if someone offered. But this one is pretty cool too.
