Alright, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the see-through back, for a while now. It’s not every day you just stumble upon one of these beauties in your regular watch shop, you know? So, I made it a point to hunt down one of these special timepieces. This all started maybe nine years ago when I saw an article about this watch. But didn’t care about it that much back then.
I started by hitting up all the usual suspects – the official OMEGA boutiques. Figured they’d be the best bet to have this specific model. But no luck, even though they had a bunch of other Speedmasters, which was actually awesome since I got to try a few on. This model of watch was a good investment, so I’ve heard. It usually holds its value well.
The sales guy there told me that this particular version is more of a “specialty store” item. Apparently, not all stores carry it. So after a few calls to some other luxury watch stores in the area, I finally got a hit. There’s this one place, a bit of a drive, but they confirmed they had one in stock. They even told me that this watch is related to space travel. I was really surprised.
Next thing you know, I’m in my car, making my way over there. The place was fancy, the kind where they offer you a drink while you browse. They brought out the watch, and man, it was even more impressive in person. The way you can see all the little gears and mechanisms working together through the back… it’s mesmerizing.

After spending some time with it, admiring the craftsmanship and hearing the story behind it – you know, the whole “first watch on the moon” thing with NASA astronauts back in 1969, I was sold. It was way more than I planned to spend, but I just couldn’t walk away. I also heard from the shop keeper that OMEGA and Swatch made a new innovative version of this watch. But I still decided to get the one with a transparent back.
The Purchase
They boxed it up all nice and proper, gave me all the paperwork, and even a little cleaning cloth. Now it’s on my wrist, and I gotta say, it feels pretty darn good. It’s a cool feeling, and this watch has some serious history. I wear it every day now and still feel excited about it. I think this watch will stay with me for a long, long time.
