Okay, here’s my post about remaking the Prada Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag:
So, I saw this Prada Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag online, the official one, and I thought, “I can totally make that.” I mean, it looked pretty straightforward, right? A tote bag with some chain details. How hard could it be?
First, I gathered all my materials. I found some really good quality nylon fabric that I thought was a good match to what Prada calls “Re-Nylon.” It’s supposed to be, like, recycled material or something. Anyway, I got that, some chain that looked similar to the one on the bag, and some basic sewing supplies.
- Black Re-Nylon fabric (as close as I could find to the real deal)
- Silver-tone chain (for the handles and details)
- Black thread
- Sewing machine (a lifesaver)
- Scissors, pins, measuring tape, the usual suspects
- Leather key ring
I started by sketching out the design. I didn’t have the actual bag in front of me, so I just went off the pictures from the official website. I measured everything out, made a rough pattern on some paper, and then cut out the fabric.
Next up, the sewing. This was probably the trickiest part. I wanted to get those quilts that the original bag has, so I did some light padding and top-stitching. To be honest, it took a few tries to get it right, but eventually, I got the hang of it. Once the main body of the bag was done, I moved on to the handles.
For the handles, I used the chain and some of the Re-Nylon fabric. I carefully threaded the fabric through the chain, making sure it was secure. Then, I attached the handles to the bag. I also added a little leather key ring, just like the original. It was a nice touch, I think.
The whole process took me a couple of days, working on and off. There were definitely some frustrating moments, especially when I had to redo some of the stitching. But in the end, I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
Is it a perfect replica? No, definitely not. I’m not a professional bag maker, and I’m sure the real Prada bag is made with much higher quality materials and craftsmanship. But for a DIY project, I think it’s pretty good! It looks similar to the original, and it’s definitely functional. Plus, it was way cheaper than buying the real thing, which is always a bonus. This bag is starting at $2 on website!
I think I will use it and see how people react to it. If I can make this bag I believe I can make other bags from Prada. The Re-Edition 1995 Chane Re-Nylon tote bag, Re-Edition 1995 Chane Re-Nylon Mini-Bag are on my list.
Anyway, that’s my Prada bag remake story. Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll try my best to answer them. Maybe I’ll try to remake another designer bag in the future. Any suggestions?
