So, I got this itch to mess around with that OMEGA Speedmaster, you know, the Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” one, reference number 310.92.44.50.01.001. Yeah, the one they call the “Rocket” – pretty cool, right?
First off, I started by just poking around online, trying to get a feel for this thing. Turns out, it’s a nod to the Apollo 8 mission, which is kinda neat. I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of space history mixed with their watches?
Then I dug a little deeper into the details. It’s got this big ol’ 44.25mm case, all black ceramic, which feels pretty solid. And the bezel? Same deal, black ceramic with that tachymeter scale etched in. Looks sharp, I gotta say.
- Checked out the dial next.
- It’s black, obviously, but it’s got this textured look that I really digged.
- And you can see some of the inner workings through it, which is always a cool touch.
I also noticed some yellow accents here and there, which I guess is a throwback to the Apollo 8 mission patch. It’s subtle, but it adds a nice pop of color against all that black.
After that, I started messing with it. To be honest, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this particular model. It is such a cool watch.
The watch is also light. I tried wearing it for the whole day, and I can say that my wrist does not feel heavy at all.
So that’s basically my little adventure with the OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon”. It’s a pretty sweet watch, and I can see why people are into it. Definitely a fun one to check out if you’re a watch nerd like me!
