Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this Fendi Oyster Bag for a while now. It’s just so darn classic, you know? I finally decided to take the plunge and try to make my own version. I mean, why not, right?
First off, I gotta say, finding the right materials was a bit of a pain. I went to like three different fabric stores. You wouldn’t believe it! Finally found this gorgeous, thick, kinda leathery material in a deep brown color. It just screamed “Fendi” to me, even though it wasn’t the real deal.
Then came the pattern. I spent hours looking online, printed out a few free ones, then ended up just kind of, like, free-handing it. Not going to lie, there were some moments I was sure I made a mistake. I just taped it all together with scotch tape to see if it even resembled a bag, and what do you know? It actually looked kinda decent.
Next, the sewing. Oh boy. I dusted off my old sewing machine, which I hadn’t used in, like, forever. Let me tell you, threading that thing is a nightmare. I think I watched like five videos just to figure that part out. But once I got going, it was actually kind of fun.
- Sewing the main body together was the easy part.
- The straps, though, those were tricky. I wanted them to be sturdy, so I sewed them like, three times over.
- And the lining! I found this silky fabric with a cool pattern that I thought would look neat inside. Sewing it in was probably the hardest part, trying to get it all smooth and lined up right.
After what felt like a week straight of sewing and unpicking stitches, it was finally done. And you know what? It actually turned out pretty good! It’s not perfect, definitely has that “handmade” vibe, but it’s got that classic Fendi Oyster shape. I’m pretty proud of myself, to be honest.
I even added a little clasp thingy I found at the craft store to make it close properly. And get this – I used some leftover fabric to make a matching coin purse! I know, I know, I went a little overboard. But hey, it was fun!
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure in making my own “Fendi” bag. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I’ve been using it for a week now, and I’ve gotten so many compliments. People keep asking where I got it, and I’m like, “Oh, you know, I just whipped it up myself.” Makes me feel pretty darn good.
