So, I got this thing, a CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the open case back. I’ve always wanted a Speedmaster, but you know, the real ones are crazy expensive. More than my new stove! This copy, though, it’s pretty good. And who knows, maybe it’ll become valuable someday, ha!
First, I spent days just looking at pictures of real Speedmasters online. I wanted to see how they’re supposed to look. The fonts, the logo, the markings on the dial – they gotta be sharp on a real one. And this copy, it’s not bad, not bad at all.
Then came the tricky part – opening the case back. I read online that a bad job can really mess up the watch. So, I got myself a three-pronged opener. I guess you could buy a fancy Bergeon tool, but I didn’t go that far. Carefully, I started to unscrew it. My hands were a bit shaky, not gonna lie.
I found out online that the new Speedmasters have some calibre 3861 movement. This one has that calibre 1863, just like an old one from 2019. I carefully opened up the back of the watch, I noticed some laser etching, which is apparently there to prevent fakes. Interesting, right?
Finally, I got it open! It was like a little window into the watch’s soul. All those tiny gears and springs working together. Man, it was cool. I spent a good hour just staring at it, trying to figure out how it all worked.
Afterward, I carefully screwed the case back on. I didn’t want to damage anything. Now, I have this cool Speedmaster copy with a see-through back. I can show it off to my friends, and maybe even fool some of them, ha! This is great.
I’ve also been reading that Omega watches, especially the Speedmaster, hold their value well. Maybe this copy will too, you never know. It’s a long shot, but hey, a guy can dream, right?
In the end, I’m just happy I got to experience a bit of that Speedmaster magic, even if it’s just a copy. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the affordable option can be just as satisfying.
