Hey everyone, I’ve been wanting to remake a Prada bag for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. I decided to go with the Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. It’s a classic, and I figured it would be a good challenge.
First things first, I did some digging around. This bag, it’s not just any bag. It’s called the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. And that “Saffiano” part? It’s a special kind of treated leather, not your everyday stuff. I found out that this bag was launched way back in 2007, and it’s been a hit ever since. No wonder, it’s stylish and practical.
So, I started by gathering all the materials. I needed Saffiano leather, of course. It’s different from regular leather because it’s embossed and treated, making it tougher and more resistant to scratches. I also needed the lining, the hardware, and all the little bits and pieces that make up a bag. I made a list and ordered everything from different shops. It took a few weeks to get all the materials assembled. I learned that the thickness of the leather really depends on the animal it comes from and what it’s going to be used for. Good to know!

Next, I carefully took apart an old bag I had to understand how it was put together. This helped me create a pattern for the Prada bag. I measured each piece of the old bag and made a template. But I knew that once I made it, I would become an expert in making bags. I decided to buy an original one at the same time. I heard that Prada bags are an investment. It cost me around ₹5,88,000, but after a discount, it was ₹5,34,490. Not cheap, but it’s Prada.
Once I had the pattern, I cut the Saffiano leather according to the template. This was the most nerve-wracking part. I didn’t want to mess up the expensive leather! After cutting, I started assembling the bag. I stitched the pieces together, added the lining, and attached the hardware. The stitching took the longest time. It had to be perfect, or the bag wouldn’t look right. I started with the main body, then the sides, and finally the handles.
Putting It All Together
The final step was adding the finishing touches, like the Prada logo and the feet at the bottom of the bag. These details make a big difference in the overall look. And voilà, I had my very own handmade Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag!
It was a lot of work, but I’m really proud of how it turned out. It looks pretty close to the real thing, if I do say so myself. Plus, I learned so much about bag making in the process. I guess Prada makes their big bucks from these leather bags, and now I know why. They’re not easy to make! Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun project, and I love the bag.
