Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with vintage Prada lately, and I stumbled upon this Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag online. It looked so chic and timeless, I just had to try and remake it myself! I mean, who wouldn’t want a classic Prada bag, right?
First, I dug up all the info I could find about this bag. It’s made of this Re-Nylon material, which I learned is some kind of recycled nylon. The online store I found it on described it as having a “versatile design” with “padding and top-stitching.” It’s basically a tote bag, but it’s super sleek and sophisticated. The dimensions I found were something like 24cm high, 35cm wide, and 9.5cm deep. The handles are apparently 84cm long, I guess that’s a good length.
Now, I’m no professional seamstress, but I’ve done a few sewing projects before. So, I thought, why not give this a shot? I started by trying to find some similar fabric. I couldn’t find “Re-Nylon” exactly, but I managed to get my hands on some black nylon fabric that felt pretty sturdy and had a nice sheen to it. The next step, choosing a suitable thickness of cotton to make that quilt-look. I went through all my quilting stuff and chose a batting about 1 cm thickness.
Then came the fun part – cutting and sewing! I used the measurements I found online as a rough guide and made a simple pattern for the bag. It was basically just a few rectangles, so not too complicated. For the handles, I made long strips of fabric and sewed them shut. The online store mentioned “top-stitching,” so I made sure to do that around the edges of the bag and on the handles to give it that extra detail. It’s not exactly like the original, but I think it captures the vibe.
I also noticed that the original bag had these “soft volumes,” as they called it. To achieve that, I stuffed the bag with some scrap fabric while I was sewing to give it a bit of shape. It seemed to work pretty well. Finally, I added a zipper on top for closure. I wanted my stuff to be secure, you know?

It’s got that “timeless charm” that the original has, and it’s definitely roomy enough for all my daily essentials. Plus, it’s unique because I made it myself!
