You see, this here watch, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s a real fancy thing. Original order, they say. I don’t know all them fancy words, but I seen it, and it’s somethin’ else. It’s like them city folks, all dressed up for a barn dance, but still lookin’ fancy. This one, it ain’t like the old ones, though. It’s got a new look.
They say it’s a remake, like when you patch up your old quilt with new squares. This here Patek Philippe, it’s like that. Got some old, some new. But still that Patek Philippe, you know. Some folks, they save up all their pennies for one of these. Is it worth it? Well, if you got the money burnin’ a hole in your pocket, maybe. Me, I’d rather have a good milk cow, but that’s just me.
This Calatrava, they call it, got these pointy hands, like the ones on that old clock in the town square. The whole thing, it’s kinda rough-lookin’, but in a good way. Like an old friend that’s seen a few things. And the color! It’s like that black and tan coonhound my neighbor used to have. Real pretty.

Now, I heard you can’t just walk into a store and buy one of these Patek Philippe things. No sir! They’re all spoken for, like the best pies at the county fair. You gotta put your name on a list, and wait, and wait. And they might just tell you, “Sorry, we ain’t got none.” Too many folks want them, I guess.
This new Calatrava, it’s got this pattern on it, kinda like them fancy cobblestone streets in the city. They call it Clous de Paris. Sounds French to me. And it’s got this beige paint, they say glows in the dark. Like them fireflies we used to catch in jars when I was a girl. Makes it look old, even though it’s brand new. Kinda like me, I reckon!
This watch, it come out this year, they say. At some big fancy show, with all them other shiny watches. Watches & Wonders 2022, I think they called it. It’s got that textured dial, all bumpy like. Makes it interesting to look at, that’s for sure. Not like them plain old watches you see all the time.
They’re tryin’ to make this Calatrava all lively, I heard. Like when you put a new ribbon on your old Sunday hat. Some folks like it, some don’t. But it’s still a Patek Philippe, and that’s somethin’, ain’t it? This one, the 5226G, it’s special, that much is for sure. Folks like us, we look at it and just see a pretty watch, but the city folk, they see somethin’ more, I guess. A status symbol, whatever that is.
For almost a hundred years, this Calatrava been around. But this new one, it looks different. You might not even know it’s a Calatrava, if you didn’t know better. Like when Bessie got her new teeth, I hardly recognized her at first! But it’s the same old Bessie underneath, just like this is still a Patek Philippe, just with a new face.
It’s got this fancy engine inside, they call it a Calibre 26-330 S C. Self-winding, they say, so you don’t gotta wind it up like them old clocks. And it can handle a little water, up to 30 meters. That’s deeper than my well! But I wouldn’t go swimmin’ with it, no sir. It’s too precious for that. And that strap! Black calfskin, all fancy and embossed. Like the fancy saddles they use for them show horses.
So, there you have it. The Patek Philippe Calatrava 5226G-001. A fancy watch, for fancy folks. Or maybe just for folks who like pretty things. Me, I’m happy with my old Timex. But I can see why folks like this one. It’s a real looker, that’s for sure. It is a good remake, right? It’s like taking something old and making it new again. Like a new dress made from old cloth.
