Well, let me tell ya, these days, everyone’s talkin’ ’bout them Rolex watches. Especially that green one. What do they call it? The Submariner? Sounds fancy, don’t it? My grandson, he’s always on that internet thing, showed me pictures. Said it’s a real hot item. High imitation, they say. Sounds like a copycat to me, but he says it’s just as good.
These high imitation Rolex Submariner, they all look the same to me. Shiny and, you know, expensive-lookin’. But he says there’s different kinds. Some with a black face, some with that green thing around the edge. They call that the bezel. Sounds like a made-up word. He says the new green Submariner is special.
My eyesight ain’t what it used to be, but I can see they got those little marks all around the edge of the face. And some numbers. Probably for tellin’ the time, I reckon. And a little window that shows the date. That’s kinda handy, I guess. Don’t gotta remember what day it is, then. Although, every day feels the same these days. You wake up, you do your chores, you go to bed.
They say these Rolex watches, even the copycat ones, are real tough. You can drop ’em, bang ’em around, and they still keep tickin’. My old watch, bless its heart, it gave up the ghost years ago. Just stopped one day. Probably for the best. Who needs to know the time when you’re retired, anyway?
That grandson of mine, he says you can find these high imitation green Submariner in a specialty store. I don’t know what that is. Seems like just a regular store to me. Probably charges an arm and a leg, though. Everything’s expensive these days.

But folks like these Rolex watches. They like to show ’em off. Makes ’em feel important, I suppose. Like they got a lot of money. Even if it is a fake one, they want people to think it’s real. I saw a man once, braggin’ about his watch. It was a Rolex. Don’t know if it was a copy, but he sure was showin’ it off.

They say these watches, they last a long time. Maybe that’s why people like ’em. They want somethin’ that’s gonna last. Something to pass down to their kids, maybe. Like an heirloom. That’s what my grandson said. It’s all Greek to me.
Me, I don’t need a fancy watch. I got my memories. That’s all I need. But these young folks, they like their fancy things. They like to keep up with the Joneses, as they say. And if that means buyin’ a copycat Rolex, then so be it.
These specialty stores, they probably make a killin’ sellin’ these things. Everyone wants to look rich. And a Rolex, even a fake one, that’s a way to do it, I guess.
I remember when a watch was just a watch. Now it’s a status symbol. Whatever that means. Sounds like somethin’ important, though. Like you’re some big shot or somethin’.
Well, I guess that’s the world we live in now. Everyone wants to look like they got money. Even if they don’t. And these high imitation Rolex watches, they’re just a way to do that. Especially that new green Submariner. That’s the one everyone’s talkin’ about. That’s the one they all want from those specialty stores.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just gettin’ old. But I don’t see the point of it all. A watch is a watch. It tells the time. That’s all that matters. But what do I know? I’m just an old lady. Times have changed.
